Our Story
Redefining the way we say goodbye
We’re honoured to support families with compassion and care, treating every pet as though they were our own.
We’re Erica and Summer, the founders of Gentle Waves, a small local pet farewell service based in Takapuna, Auckland.
We first met at university while studying the same course, and our friendship grew through shared experiences, life changes, and a love for animals. Our own pets are a huge part of our lives too. Erica has Pocky, her much loved cat, and Summer shares her home with Lyun, Fufu, and Ziggy, her two cats and dog. They are our little family members, and a daily reminder of how deeply pets become part of the family.
The idea for Gentle Waves came from wanting to create something softer and more thoughtful for families saying goodbye to their beloved pets. We felt there should be a place where people could slow down, feel supported, and farewell their companion in a way that felt personal and gentle.
When we learned about aquamation, it felt aligned with the kind of care we wanted to offer: a gentler alternative to flame cremation, with a lighter environmental footprint, and a process that honours each pet with dignity and respect.
Gentle Waves is a small, hands-on business. Every pet who comes into our care is treated as an individual. We are personally involved in every part of the journey, from the first message to the moment they are ready to return home. It is emotional work, but it means a lot to us.
Thank you for being here and for trusting us with such an important farewell. We hope Gentle Waves can bring a little comfort, peace, and gentleness when your family needs it most.
